FOMO? I DUNNO

Arts & Letters Daily linked to The Man Who Taught Us How to Pay Attention. It's yet another thing to go into my read-it-later app of the moment. It's a deep, dark hole of things I will never get to, but just in case... You know the drill. If I just stopped looking for new things I would be left with lifetimes of things to read that I have bookmarked and captured in other ways over decades of web excursions. I can't stop! I won't stop! Is it FOMO? I DUNNO. What I know is that I read a fraction of it and the pile just keeps getting bigger. I keep thinking all of this digital collecting (hoarding?) will amount to something. We are, after all, in a time where context truly is king.

What I know is that we waste years on these screens. God fucking damnit! I can't stop! I hate that I can't stop! It's infuriating. Truly. I dream of a time where these screens are not making us into hunched-over trolls. Will we ever disconnect or will the connection just be part of us. I don't want it. I thought I did when I was younger. I was looking forward to being a cyborg. It was the stuff of science fiction. Now... well, I'm not so excited. I can clearly see where it leads and it's not a good path.

Somehow I continue to be optimistic. We'll figure this out. Won't we? I'm sorry it's been a while.
